Season Opener with TrackDaze at VIR

The Motorsports season is rolling into 2010 with a few cold events in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Some were snowed out, the first of the year for TrackDaze was a success and missed the worst of the winter mess. The TrackDaze crew arrived at VIR on Sunday as the BMW club was wrapping up a weekend event. A number of die hards made it a 4 day event by staying Monday and Tuesday. Renntag Racing's Colin Jevens Teamed up with Jon Felton of Get-Fast to manage instructors and class room for the event and guarantee a safe two days for everyone.

Eric Campbell and Jeremy Jens of TrackDaze welcomed everyone to what looks like another great season for TrackDaze. A number of people have taken advantage of the "season pass" and some are already registering for the next event at Summit Point in May. Eric mentioned that TrackDaze is entering the 24 hours of Lemons coming to Summit in June. Anyone looking to prepare for Lemons should come to the May event to test for the big race. This testing time will give teams another 5 weeks to make adjustments.

The Red group (Instructors) were given the privilege of "open passing" for all of their sessions. With so many instructors also involved in wheel to wheel racing and Time Trials, there is a high level of awareness in this group. This change was well received and the group had no incidents or issues. Great job guys/gals !

Celebrity guests in attendance: Pro Coach Peter Krause of Krause and Associates, Coach and Track Designer Desire Wilson, and Mustang Tuner extraordinaire Kenny Brown.

The pro team had 3 Miller Mustang Challenge cars in the paddock. The sound of the Ford Spec car screaming around VIR, got the attention of everyone at the event.

Day one was clear and sunny. A few mechanical issues made for short delays, but overall a very smooth and safe day. Classroom time with Colin was certainly a welcome break from the cooler temps in the paddock.

The TrackDaze crew had the opportunity to get a few laps in on the simulator at Krause and Associates' studio before descending on Millies for Dinner.

Day two was over cast and expected to be wet. Light rain came through near lunch but didn't stay giving lots of clear track. By late afternoon the snow started and most everyone was packing up to head home anyway. Before calling it a day, the Get-Fast.net 4 man bobsled, cleverly disguised as an M3, went out for a few laps. With the extra weight in the car, it stuck surprisingly well!

Thanks to Kevin Rosen for a session in his immaculate '93 Cobra.

Next event is at Summit Point Raceway's Shenandoah Circuit in mid May. Expect to see the Lemons cars testing for Hyperfest.
