Renntag Racing hangs with Randy Pobst at VIR.
Another stellar event at VIR. With pro drivers, great weather, and a great attitude in the paddock, we had a great time at the track.
Audi club had VIR for the weekend and TrackDaze was coming in for two days Monday Tuesday. It was a brisk November event at one of our favorite tracks. Matt and Julia headed down early to play with Audi club. Colin was at Summit Point for 3 days with Volvo, EMRA, and BSR and arrived just in time for a memorial party held in honor of Cale Kastanek.
Monday morning we were pleased to see that Randy Pobst was still on site after his 911 lost a coolant hose in the roller coaster. This would be our second time at VIR with the personable pro driver. The day was uneventful and the group seemed to behave. Matt had a student with a GT500 and Colin rode with a few students in after his classroom duties were complete. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere with TrackDaze.
Most notable was getting to ride with Randy Pobst in his APR tuned 911 turbo. The car is incredibly fast and Randy confidently bends it through the turns. After a few smooth hot laps, Randy said, "lets try to get it loose". He had been trying different ways to get the car to rotate into the turns. This was a challenge even with the stability control off. Having some fun Randy was able to get the 911 sliding through South Bend, Oak Tree and Nascar Bend. What a blast ! We were hitting speeds over 160mph and braking as hard as the street tires would allow. The sounds coming from the rubber were an indication of how hard they were trying to adhere. I was able to pick up a couple of different ideas from Randy that I can translate into my own driving at VIR. We will see next year if I am able to make it work.
Thanks Randy and best of luck in 2009.
